On July 25, 2011, JICA, in the collaboration with World Bank and Tohoku University, carried out a joint field survey of the Tsunami-affected area. The joint survey was arranged to suit the visit to Japan of Mr. Saroj, Manager of GFDRR (Global Facility of Disaster Risk Reduction) and DRM Global Expert Team Leader. Brief information on the survey is as follows.
1. Purposes
- 1 . To discuss past concept of disaster prevention and future direction of reconstruction through a series of field observation.
- 2 . To exchange opinions with an official of Higashi-Matsushima city, which is one of the affected local authorities in Miyagi Prefecture, on the reconstruction plan concept.
- 3 . To exchange views with Prof. Imamura, Tohoku University, who is a member of the Study Group of the Reconstruction Design Council and a member of advisory committees of prefectural reconstruction councils, on the philosophy and the direction of reconstruction plans at central and prefectural levels.

By continuing a series of activities, such as the joint survey until the coming March, we are going to frame conclusion of the project study, which will be useful for future international cooperation activities and will be able to contribute to global effort on Disaster risk reduction
