Achievements
Operational research conducted in the "Project for Strengthening Development of Human Resource for Health" (2010 – 2014) in Tanzania revealed that, through 5S activities, hospital cleanliness evaluated by patients and employees and the average rating on work environment evaluated by employees were improved. Also, patient waiting time was reduced, and patient satisfaction rating of the hospital was improved. As for KAIZEN, various effects have been reported from hospitals. In some hospitals, patient waiting time was reduced by 43%, incidence of phlebitis associated with intravenous cannulation was reduced by 52%, rejected laboratory samples was reduced by 63%, overcrowding of patients at triage area was reduced by 52%, waste segregation was improved by 86%, hospital revenue improved due to improved application for health insurance by 200%, to mention a few.
