From Saturday 26th July to Friday 1st August, ten (10) Japanese educators participated in the JICA Overseas Training Program for Education Administrators in Papua New Guinea (PNG). The training program is designed for Japanese school education professionals to visit developing countries, deepen their understanding of JICA’s educational support initiatives, and enhance their global perspective. The goal is to strengthen the capacity of school leaders to continuously promote international understanding and development education in their schools and communities.

During their stay, the delegation visited National Department of Education, Media Centre, Sacred Heart Teachers’ College/Bomana to learn the current education system via PNG and JICA’s cooperation in the education sector. They also visited Sogeri National School of Excellence and Sogeri Primary School in Central Province, where JICA Volunteers are dispatched, to observe classroom practices and interact with students and staff.

At each institution, active discussions took place, with participants sharing insights and experiences from the Japanese education system. In addition, the group visited key JICA-supported infrastructure projects, including the Port Moresby Sewage Site and Baruni Landfill Site, gaining a broader understanding of Japan’s ODA initiatives in PNG.
