Signing of Record of Discussions for the Republic of Indonesia: The Project for Buidling Sustainable System for Resilience and Innovation in Coastal Community

Jakarta, 22nd February 2022, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed Record of Discussions (R/D) with Bandung Institute of Technology, Republic of Indonesia for a Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) "The Project for Buidling Sustainable System for Resilience and Innovation in Coastal Community".

The joint research is conducted under the framework of technical cooperation involving various University Researchers, and Government Officials from Japanese and Indonesian institutions.The aim of this project is to create coastal area with harmonized disaster prevention, environment, and economy by improving the protective functions of coastal areas based on the latest technology and scientific knowledge, building social implementation methods, and developing monitoring networks and transferring analysis technology.

By the implementation of this project, we expect the resilience and sustainability of coastal areas against disasters will be improved by green-gray infrastructure and soft measures.

Implementing Agency Japanese Research Institutions: Kyoto University, Tohoku University, Port and Airport Research Institute, Chuo University and other institutions.
Indonesian Research Institutions: ITB, BNPB, UGM, UI, PUPR, KKP, BMKG, BRIN, KEMENDAGRI, UNUD, USK, ITK, UNPATTI, UNDIP
Location Main sites are Bali and Ambon, with the sub-sites in East Kalimantan and Pangandaran
Project Outputs
  1. Real-time and long-term coastal monitoring system for coastal hydrodynamics and beach deformation are developed
  2. Multi-hazards and risk assessment for global warming and complex disasters (tsunamis, ocean waves, floods) is performed.
  3. Optimal design method for gray infrastructure incorporating green infrastructure for Eco-DRR/Nature-based solution is established.
  4. Inclusive and evidence-based decision support platform for resilient coastal society is developed.
