West Java Province announced the winning bidder in Legok Nangka Waste to Energy Project (Project) on 9th August 2023 at the West Java Investment Summit held in Mason Pine Hotel, West Bandung Regency. The West Java Governor, Ridwan Kamil, handed over a Letter of Award to the bidding winner, the consortium led by Sumitomo Corporation in partnership with Hitachi Zosen Corporation and PT Energia Prima Nusantara (Consortium).

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has supported the Project since 2019 to develop the first bankable PPP Waste to Energy project in Indonesia, which can mobilize private capital and finance to the strategically important infrastructure project. JICA has assisted West Java Province though Transaction Advisory Service to design, structure and formulate the Project.

In the Project, West Java Province aims to collect and deliver wastes from municipalities to the waste-to-energy facility where Consortium plans to manage around 2,000 tons of wastes per day and generate electricity. The Project can address the enormous waste management issues in West Java Province and de-carbonization in Indonesia, which can contribute to Indonesian government's efforts to achieve net zero emission target by 2060.

JICA will continue to support West Java Province to reach financial close in the Project.
