JICA supported improvement of locust management in Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Industry and Melioration of the Kyrgyz Republic (MoA) showed to journalists how they are fighting with locust outbreaks in Zhaiyl region of Chui oblast, using the knowledge and equipment received in the frame of joint project with FAO and JICA.

Thanks to grant assistance from the Government of Japan and expert support from FAO, the Department on Chemicalization and Plant Protection of MoA received the special equipment. In total 14 new Toyota Hilux vehicles (single-pickup pickups), 7 Toyota Hilux autos (double cab pick-up pickups), 10 automotive low-volume ultra sprayers, the necessary kits for autumn and spring survey, and computer equipment were provided.

"In a short time with low fuel consumption, an SUV and a sprayer cover far more hectares of land than tractor. We manage to handle the most difficult parts of the field. For provided assistance to our agriculture sector, I express my deep gratitude to the partners from Japan and the FAO UN", - said Derbishaliev Zh., Director of the Department on Chemicalization and Plant Protection of MoA.
