International Standard 4 lane Access Road from Thanlyin to Thilawa Special Economic Zone (Thilawa SEZ) opens for daily life improvement of public and more investment at Thilawa SEZ.

The access road 8.7 km length from Thanlyin bridge to Thilawa SEZ was transformed into "international standard 4 lane road" constructed by the Department of Highways (DOH) and her Project Team under funding support from JICA. This is one of the infrastructure development projects supported for the development of Thilawa SEZ. It aims to promote foreign direct investment at Thilawa SEZ, the famous special economic zone for the development of Myanmar.

In order to attract foreign investors, the sufficient basic infrastructures- like roads and bridges, power supply, port facility, water supply, communication and logistic network are essential. Therefore, JICA provided funds for those facilities. At this moment, power plant, transmission line and multi-purpose port have completed. The progress of water supply facility and new Thanlyin bridge, beside the existing bridge gives more confidence to international friends to invest at Thilawa SEZ.

The construction of Access Road applied new technology by installing electricity lines and communication lines under the sidewalk for convenient maintenance and repair works. Interlocking sidewalk, proper drainage system, street lighting, guardrail and other related facilities were included focusing on safety and convenience of road users, in addition to attract investors at Thilawa SEZ.

During construction of access road, there were a lot of challenges; such as relocation of power line, communication line, management of traffic flow and etc., which were solved by combined efforts of DoH and Project Team.
