Public Health Capacity Development Assistance for Rural Poor in Sindh

The objective of the Project is to establish systems for the rural poor in Kamber-Shahdadkot District which enables the people living in the areas to utilize; extend and maintain their knowledge of public health.

People living in the project area have been suffering from abject poverty as well as infectious/contagious diseases such as diarrhea, malaria and skin disease. Their health condition remains poor mainly due to the lack of knowledge about public health. It is strongly hoped that they will be able to improve their health and livelihoods by developing the local capacity to acquire and extend the knowledge of public health through the project.

Project Summary

This project aims to achieve the following outputs:

  1. Health Extension Workers in the 56 targeted villages in the two union councils will be able to utilize and extend their knowledge to others.
  2. Beneficiaries, especially mothers and their children will be able to utilize and extend their public health knowledge to others.
  3. Beneficiaries will be able to use sanitation facilities to be installed in the villages in a proper manner.
  4. The sanitation facilities will be maintained in a good condition and beneficiaries will be able to understand the importance of maintenance.

The hygiene workshops for 1,700 women in 56 villages will be held, to improve and utilize their public health knowledge. There are 56 female hygiene promoters at village level who were selected from each village and trained by our hygiene team. They are working as volunteers to extend and transfer their knowledge to others. Hygiene educational book, mosquito net, soap, comb and nail cutter will be distributed to participants at the workshops.
