On May 13, 2019, we, as JICA Turkey Office, paid a visit to Gerontology department of Akdeniz University in Antalya to which JICA provided with technical cooperation through dispatching senior volunteers. Currently two Japanese experts are working at "Active Aging Center". This center was founded under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ismail Tufan, the head of Gerontology department, in order to give service for the people who are over 60 years of age to protect the knowledge, skills and abilities of elders; to provide new ones and to lay the base of quality and successful aging. Gerontology expert Mr. Hiroshi Nakajima was dispatched to Gerontology Department as a Senior Volunteer of JICA in 2015-2017. After the end of his term, he continued to work in the same department as a physical activity instructor, and now he makes "Radio Taisou" workout which are some warm up exercises for physical wellness with the students of "Active Aging Center" every morning.

The other expert is Dr. Ikiko Murakami who is a lecturer at Health Management Department of Akdeniz University and she voluntarily gives Japanese language lessons at the same center. The students of "Active Aging Center" were so pleased to meet JICA Turkey Office Mission. Our Chief Representative, Mr. Yasui made a small speech and stated his pleasure to see such a special center, which is only for elderly people. The students also stated their appreciation for both experts. During the visit, Prof. Dr. Ismail Tufan gave detailed information about the activities of center, and requested further cooperation of JICA in the future.
