Ceremony of 60th Anniversary of Japan's ODA in Turkey

"Turkey and Japan, two countries with long historical ties, are opportunities for further cooperation in business, urbanization, disaster risk reduction and regional development areas" said the officials at 60th anniversary celebration of Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) in Turkey on Tuesday.

Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA), which started operations in Turkey by inviting Turkish experts to Japan in 1959, celebrated its 60th anniversary on Nov.12, 2019. The ceremony was held in Ankara with around 200 participants who were ex-participants of JICA Trainings, participants from partner institutions and high-ranking officials from Turkish Government as well as Japanese Embassy and JICA HQ.

Nine speakers including Ambassador of Japan to Ankara, Vice Ministers of Defense, and Treasury and Finance, Mayor of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality made speeches.

All the speakers underlined the deep historical ties between two countries and Japan's contribution to a large number of projects in Turkey such as Bosporus Rail Tube Crossing Project (Marmaray), the Second Bosporus Bridge, Syrian refugees, capacity development and disaster mitigation. Efforts of two countries for strengthening bilateral cooperations in terms of finance and business were also emphasized. During the program, the video that was produced for the memory of this occasion was shown and past and present projects of JICA were introduced to the audiences.
