Embassy of Japan organized a press tour in order to introduce Japanese support for Syrian refugees as well JICA's project with Gaziantep Water and Sewage Administration (GASKI) for Turkish and Japanese media on March 12-13, 2020.

The mission visited Advanced Biological Waste Water Treatment Plant of GASKI which was constructed with the support of "Local Authorities Infrastructure Improvement Project". JICA signed a Japanese ODA loan agreement on May 15, 2015 with the İllerbank to provide a loan of up to 45 billion JPY to improve infrastructure services of local authorities, which accept Syrians under temporary protection, and contribute to better living environment for the citizens including Syrians. The Director General of GASKI, Mr. Huseyin SONMEZLER made a speech and stated that the treatment plant is the region's largest wastewater facility with a capacity of 200 thousand cubic meters, which was constructed by JICA's financial support, and stands out with its environmental protection and it will clean the wastewater for 1 million people. H.E. Akio MIYAJIMA also made a speech and said that this was his second visit to the wastewater treatment plant and he was very pleased to see that most of the construction works had been already completed.

The mission also visited Ms. Fatma Sahin, the Mayor of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality. Ms. Sahin stated that the people of Gaziantep appreciate JICA's continuous support to the municipality and they are willing to further cooperation with JICA in various fields.
