JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka held talks with World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim at JICA headquarters in Tokyo on Dec. 16.

Mr. Kitaoka highlighted how JICA and the World Bank Group (WBG) have promoted their partnership through high-level dialogue and have achieved results on such global development agendas as universal health coverage (UHC) and disaster risk reduction as well as joint projects in various regions, and those in Africa in particular. He stressed the need to strengthen their dialogue and deepen their relationship toward the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI) planned for next year.

Mr. Kim responded that the WBG would also like to continue the high-level dialogue between the two institutions. With TICAD in mind, he stressed the importance of cooperation in such areas as UHC and domestic resource mobilization in developing countries. The two also discussed assistance in the Middle East.
