JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka held talks with Ertharin Cousin, executive director of the United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP), at JICA headquarters in Tokyo on March 9.
Ms. Cousin, whose term at the WFP ends in April, expressed appreciation for the cooperation between Japan and the WFP. Ms. Cousin and Mr. Kitaoka then discussed their expectations for a continued and further partnership between JICA and the WFP on the Initiative for Food and Nutrition Security in Africa, an international initiative proposed by JICA that was announced in Nairobi at the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development. They also talked about partnerships between JICA and the WFP in such fields as assisting small-scale farmers and enhancing resilience against conflicts and natural disasters in Africa.
JICA will continue strengthening its partnership with the WFP and work toward even more effective food security and nutritional improvement.
