JICA President Tanaka Visits Afghanistan for the Second Time

JICA President Akihiko Tanaka visited Afghanistan Dec. 7-8 to look into the progress of JICA's projects in the country.

It was Tanaka's second visit to Afghanistan since assuming his position as JICA president.

During his visit to the site of a project on Kabul metropolitan development, he stopped by secondary trunk roadways and community roads completed as part of the project. At the community road sites, he saw concrete paving done to allow residents to easily perform management and maintenance themselves and speed bumps suggested by residents. He was welcomed by local residents.

Tanaka also visited a hospital, which was completed in August 2013 with Japanese assistance. A high official of Ministry of Public Health, who accompanied Tanaka, called the hospital a top-class hospital in Afghanistan and said the hospital is helping improve health care services for the people of Afghanistan.

On Dec. 8, Tanaka visited a few more projects and left for Japan.
