On Sept. 17, JICA President Akihiko Tanaka held talks with Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, in the State Guest Houses.

Tanaka began by mentioning the Joint Vision Statement on Japan–Viet Nam Relations announced by Trong and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and he said JICA would like to contribute to deepening the relationship between the two countries through its implementation of ODA. He said JICA would like to provide cooperation to Viet Nam by quickly implementing newly pledged Japanese ODA loans. He added that JICA would like to support the country in various areas including human resource development, agriculture and public finance management.

In response, Trong thanked JICA for its assistance to Viet Nam and said Viet Nam would like to continue making use of Japan's ODA with effectiveness and efficiency. In addition, he expressed his hopes for assistance in areas including infrastructure improvement, poverty reduction, agricultural and rural development, and human resource development.

Tanaka said JICA would like to continue proactively improving Viet Nam's economic and social infrastructure, particularly based on a "Partnership for Quality Infrastructure."

Trong once again expressed his gratitude for the ODA extended by JICA and the Japanese government, emphasizing that he would like to provide guidance on the effective use of the assistance and preventing corruption.

Finally, Tanaka concluded the talks by saying JICA would like to continue providing support for the development of Viet Nam and enhanced connectivity of the ASEAN region.
