2025.03.26

On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, the first AFICAT Information Sharing Session was held at JICA headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. This Information Sharing Session aims to promote the further business expansion of Japanese companies into Africa by introducing the current state of the agricultural sector and the needs for advanced agricultural technologies in Africa. The session featured JICA Japanese experts well-versed in the local circumstances of the five main target countries of AFICAT, along with staff from local AFICAT partner organizations.

The theme of the first session was Kenya, and two JICA experts gave presentations. Mr. Shunichi Murakami, former Agricultural Mechanization Advisor at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD), presented "Challenges and needs of agricultural mechanization in Kenya." Mr. Takanori Satoyama, Strategic Agricultural Development Advisor at the MoALD, spoke about "Kenya's agricultural investment promotion policies, investment environment, and opportunities for Japanese companies." This was followed by a Q&A session with the participants. The event saw about 70 participants both on-site and online, demonstrating significant interest in Kenya from Japanese companies and other agricultural stakeholders. After the Information Sharing Session, a business card exchange and networking reception were held, contributing to the expansion of networks among participants.

We plan to continue holding these Information Sharing Sessions regularly, changing the focus country each time. Updates on upcoming sessions will be announced through the AFICAT mailing list and on this website. We look forward to your participation.

The session was held both in person and online. About 20 participants were there at the venue and had a lively exchange of opinions.
