2024.12.17
The 4th AFICAT Information Sharing Session took place on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the JICA Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. The session aims to promote further business expansion into Africa by Japanese companies by introducing the current state of the agricultural sector and the needs for advanced agricultural technologies in the five key target countries of AFICAT. Japanese advisors with expertise in local conditions and staff from local AFICAT partner organizations were invited to speak in the previous three sessions conducted to date.
This 4th session focused on Côte d’Ivoire, a key target country, and Senegal, another French-speaking nation in West Africa. Presentations were delivered by JICA advisors and consultants with extensive knowledge of the agricultural sectors in these countries. The AFICAT Survey Team from Deloitte Tohmatsu Financial Advisory LLC and Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting LLC shared findings from their field survey, presenting an overview of the supply chains for major agricultural products in Côte d’Ivoire, such as cocoa, cotton, and onions.
Mr. Oishi, a JICA Agricultural Mechanization Advisor, explained the state of rice cultivation, rice milling, agricultural mechanization systems, and the local business environment in Côte d’Ivoire, encouraging Japanese companies to expand their businesses in the country. Meanwhile, Mr. Eguchi from Sanyu Consultants Inc. discussed Senegal’s agricultural potential and current mechanization status based on a preparatory study for a two-step loan initiative being developed by JICA in the country.
The session attracted 73 participants in total, including both in-person and online attendees, highlighting significant interest in Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and the broader West African region among Japanese companies and domestic agricultural stakeholders. Following the Information Sharing Session, a networking event was held at a nearby restaurant, with an aim of fostering connections among participants.
The program details and presentation materials from the session can be accessed through the link below (Only in Japanese). Moving forward, the Information Sharing Sessions will continue to be held regularly, with different countries and themes. Updates on upcoming sessions will be shared via the AFICAT mailing list and website. We look forward to your participation (Open to Japanese companies, organizations and their local staff in African countries only).
The session was held both in person and online. About 15 participants were there at the venue and had a lively exchange of opinions.
