[Nigeria] AFICAT Participates in AAMETEX (November 12–15, 2024)
2025.06.12
The Africa Agricultural Mechanization Exhibition and Technology Expo (AAMETEX) is one of the events organized by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) of Nigeria in celebration of World Food Day (October 16). To avoid overlapping with other agricultural exhibitions and to establish itself as one of Africa’s leading events focused on agricultural machinery, AAMETEX was held from November 12 to 15. Under the theme “New Hope for Food Security through Agricultural Mechanization,” the event featured sessions over three days, including presentations by national programs, donor organizations such as IFAD, private companies, government agencies, and universities. A representative of the Federal Department of Agriculture (FDA) within FMAFS, who also serves as an AFICAT focal person, gave a presentation on AFICAT’s activities and achievements to date.
AFICAT hosted a booth to promote Japanese products and technologies in Nigeria while also helping local counterparts improve their ability to introduce these technologies. A four-unit space was secured at the venue for the AFICAT booth. It featured a handout listing the technologies and products of 15 participating Japanese companies, along with flyers and videos submitted by individual firms. Many visitors stopped to watch the promotional videos. As for actual equipment, a moisture meter provided by Kett Electric Laboratory was demonstrated by staff from the Agribusiness and Marketing Development Department (ABM), to whom the equipment had been loaned. HONDA, which has a local presence in Nigeria, also exhibited compact power machinery and generators at the AFICAT booth. Right next to it, SATAKE set up its own booth, creating a row of five consecutive spaces showcasing Japanese companies.
On the second and third days, B2B sessions were organized with the support of NACCIMA (the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture), coordinated by JICA’s agricultural development advisor. These sessions were attended by HONDA, STANDAGE, and SATAKE, and were seen as a valuable opportunity to build future business partnerships beyond general visitors.
Although this was only the third AAMETEX event and operational challenges remain, its location in Abuja drew many participants from Nigeria’s northern grain-producing regions. As a specialized agricultural exhibition, AAMETEX continues to be highly anticipated by FMAFS for future development.
During AAMETEX, representatives from the organizer FMAFS visited each booth. At the AFICAT booth, equipment from Kett Electric Laboratory was exhibited and explained by an ABM staff member (AFICAT focal person).
