Coalition for African Rice Development (CARD)

Community-based Initiatives to Reduce Rural Poverty

JICA, in partnership with Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), launched an initiative now known as the "Coalition for African Rice Development" (CARD) on the occasion of the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) held in Yokohama, Japan in May 2008. CARD is a new comprehensive initiative to support the efforts of African countries aiming at doubling African rice production within ten years. It also forms a consultative group of donors, research institutions and other relevant organizations to work with rice producing African countries.
