Program

Session 6

8:30-10:00: How to foster effective collaboration through multi-stakeholder policy dialogue for successful health financing reform: Experience sharing towards just and sustainable universal health coverage (UHC)

Policy dialogue is increasingly recognized as an effective means to foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders and tackle cross-cutting, multisectoral challenges like UHC.

This session will draw on real-world experiences and empirical research to share actionable insights on enhancing collaborative endeavors for successful health financing reform. Policymakers from three countries, Senegal, Kenya, and Egypt and Japanese researchers will mainly present health insurance, digital transformation, and external budget support.

After the presentation part, a panel discussion and open Q&A will be provided for identifying common challenges and opportunities.

Session 7

10:30-12:00: Bridging the cancer care gaps in resource-constrained and conflict settings: toward inclusive and integrative health systems

The WHO estimates that three-quarters of global cancer deaths will occur in low- and middle-income countries by 2030. However, access to cancer care remains a challenge in many countries, especially for those who are poor and/or forcibly displaced.

The objective of this interactive session is to provide an opportunity for policymakers, health practitioners, researchers, the private sector, and NGOs of North and South to learn about the current challenges based on the cutting-edge research findings, and to jointly come up with innovative strategies.

Session 8

12:30-14:00: New scope for enhancing research capacity in Eastern Africa

Strengthening Sub-Saharan Africa's research capacity is crucial against challenges posed by infectious diseases such as PHEICs. A robust Research Management and Administration (RMA) system enhances research capacity, offering substantial benefits to researchers for increasing research efficiency and effectiveness in both the pre-award and post-award processes. This, in turn, significantly contributes to health policy improvements.

This session shares insights from developing the RMA model of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), showcasing its impact on RMA in East Africa.

*This session is open only for participants at Dejima Messe, but a report will be published in due course.
