Japan Association for International Health
Ikuo Takizawa obtained a Master of Science degree in population and international health from Harvard School of Public Health. He joined the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 1992 and has been involved in JICA’s health and health-related projects and programs over 30 years in diverse settings in Asia, Africa, Middle East and the Americas, covering broad development issues including universal health coverage, pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, and application of technological and social innovations. During COVID-19 pandemic he led the operation of the Office for COVID-19 Response which was created to mobilize organization-wide response in JICA against the pandemic. Currently he supervises JICA research institute’s research projects in human development cluster (health and education) focusing on global health challenges.
