Book Launch “Forced Migration and Humanitarian Action: Operational Challenges and Solutions for Supporting People on the Move”

Outline

Today’s global humanitarian situation is marked by diverse forced migration scenarios caused by various crises. When people leave their homes due to conflicts, disasters, and other crises, they face impoverishment, deprivation, separation from family, and acute risks requiring protection. Consequently, forced migration has become a critical operational concern and a necessary subject of study.

In 2022, the JICA Ogata Research Institute launched the research project "Evolving Humanitarian Action for Forced Migration," which examines the challenges that forced migration poses to humanitarian action and identifies the recent developments aimed at improving assistance and better-protecting people with specific needs during different phases of displacement. This three-year project resulted in a book and a guidance note intended to contribute to research and practice.

This book launch event introduces the latest publication of this project, “Forced Migration and Humanitarian Action: Operational Challenges and Solutions for Supporting People on the Move.” The presentations will highlight key features of the book, including an introduction to the diverse operational modalities and types of assistance provided by traditional and nontraditional humanitarian actors discussed in the specific chapters on displaced children, women, people with disabilities, older individuals, and trafficked migrant workers.
