【close】[Knowledge Forum] Re-examining “Human Security” in an Era of Global Crisis: Viewing the World and Japan through Human Dignity Lens
Day:2021.03.31
event |
With the publication of "SDGs and Japan: Human Security Indicators for Leaving No One Behind" (English edition) in November 2020, JICA Ogata Research Institute will hold the JICA Ogata Research Institute Knowledge Forum to re-examine the significance and challenges of the concept of human security and its operationalization.
Although there has been remarkable achievements in “freedom from fear and want” such as improvement of poverty rate and infant mortality through the efforts for the MDGs adopted in 2000, the world still faces a variety of challenges, including newly emerging issues, with less than 10 years left to deliver the SDGs.
In this forum, we will discuss the challenges and achievements surrounding human security in the new era with the rapid changes, including the dramatic increase in the number of refugees, political divide as well as the novel coronavirus pandemic. We will also shed light on "human dignity", and discuss the role of Japan for the promotion of human security and the practical issues in policy and development.
