The Embassy of Japan, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Burkina Faso and JICA visited the South-East Bypass of Boulevard Tansoba on June 28 in 2022.

The Japanese Embassy was represented by the Japanese Ambassador in Burkina Faso, His Excellency, Mr. KATO Masaaki. The Secretary General, the Director General of Road Infrastructure, Mr. KYELEM Jean, represented the Ministry of Infrastructure.

The Resident Representative, Mr. OKITSU Keiichi, represented JICA.

This visit took place five months after the end of the construction works. The Japanese cooperation project has completely rehabilitated the Tansoba Boulevard, which was in poor conditions after almost 60 years of service since its inauguration in 1960.

In his introductory remarks to the visit, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Infrastructure once again thanked the Government of Japan for providing this modern road and for its contribution to facilitation of the traffic and transport of the populations.

During the visit, from the starting point of the boulevard, the East Interchange, to its ending point, the delegation stopped at four points to appreciate the work. The Ministry of Infrastructure thus gave explanations to the Ambassador on the measures taken to solve the inundation problems along the boulevard. Thanks to those measures, even in this rainy season so far, there has been no flood incident that had afflicted the habitants in the area for a long time.

As a reminder, the Government of Burkina Faso and JICA signed a grant agreement for the implementation of the Southeastern Bypass of Tansoba Boulevard Improvement Project in 2017. This grant aid project, with the amount of 5,801 million Yen or about 28 billion FCFA, rehabilitated 6.97 km of the road through its widening and constructing footbridges, cycle paths, sidewalks etc. The project started in February 2019 and ended in January 2022. The Japanese company, Dai Nippon Construction (DNC), executed the construction works under the supervision of INGEROSEC Corporation.
