Ministry of Education and Technical Education (MOETE) and JICA Project Team has been developing a Guideline for improving technical secondary education by referring to Japanese style technical education. JICA Project Team conducted Guideline training at pilot schools in the three governorates of Portsaid, Menofeya and Qaliouebya to train school staff on how to implement this style.

What differentiates technical education from general secondary education is the technical skills that are taught in practical lessons. That is the reason why the Guideline mainly focuses on practical lesson improvement. "Repetitive practice/instruction" is the most important keyword of the Guideline as it is necessary for students to acquire competencies (hard skills and soft skills) that the industry requires. In the Guideline training, the participants learned how to give repetitive practice instruction and developed action plans customized to each school's/ department's needs.

At El-Araby school, which is an Applied Technology School operated in cooperation of MOETE and El-Araby Group, 35 teachers attended at the training on 4th and 5th Sep. Despite of the fact the school just opened in the last academic year, the school made marvelous efforts to apply the Guideline last year with support by El-Araby and has become a role model for student discipline and time management. It is expected that the school would continue further improvements in this academic year.

In Port Said, training was conducted on 15th at Zohour industrial school and 16th Sep at Sumitomo Electrical Wiring System (SEWS), which is a partner company of the project. Around 40 teachers joined from three pilot schools, Ahmed Zewail, Port Said, and Tahrir school, and Zohour industrial school which participated in our training for the first time. On the 2nd day, each school developed action plans with clear target value to be achieved throughout this academic year. In addition, thanks to the support from SEWS, teachers visited the SEWS' factory to see how competencies are required at the manufacturing site.

The third training program was conducted in Qalyoubeya Governorate in Obour Industrial City. The training was held in Unicharm Factory on 9th of October. The training was attended by 16 teachers as well as officials from Idara. Mr. Taha Aglan, Undersecretary of MOETE for Qalyuobeya Governorate, attended the training and addresses a speech of encouragement to the teachers to work hard on implementing the guidelines of the practical lessons training, stressing that teachers are the corner stone for the development of the technical education in Egypt.
