JICA President Akihiko Tanaka held talks with Luis Alberto Moreno, president of the Inter-American Development Bank (1), on Sept. 8 at JICA headquarters in Tokyo.

At the start of the talks, Moreno expressed thanks for personal exchanges with JICA and for JICA's proactive initiatives to further promote Co-Financing for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CORE, 2), and he requested the participation of Tanaka in the next IDB annual meeting planned for Busan, Korea, in March 2015.

In response, Tanaka said JICA is planning to co-sponsor a side event at the IDB annual meeting in Busan with the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF), an aid agency within the Export-Import Bank of Korea that provides ODA loan assistance, and Moreno expressed his support.

The topic of peace talks between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia also came up, and the two men affirmed their intention to consider partnering on public order, poverty alleviation and encouraging private investment in Colombia, which is in the process of further development. They also talked about promoting cooperation under the Emerging Sustainable Cities Initiative (ESCI, 3) and cooperation possibilities in the field of sports.

JICA will continue to strengthen its cooperation with the IDB while advancing cooperation in the Latin American and the Caribbean region.
