On Dec. 14 in Tokyo, JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka held talks with Mark Suzman, Chief Strategy Officer & President of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, who was in Japan to speak at the UHC Forum 2017.
Mr. Kitaoka began the discussion by talking about loan conversion* for anti-polio measures being carried out in Pakistan and Nigeria in cooperation with the Gates Foundation. Mr. Suzman talked about his expectations for JICA's contributions in the field of universal health coverage, and the two men discussed their organizations' partnership in the field of nutrition.
JICA will strengthen its cooperative relationship with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and make a contribution in various fields including UHC and nutrition.
*Under loan conversion mechanism, if the borrowing country meets specific targets set in advance, the ODA loan will be repaid by the Gates Foundation.
