JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka held talks with Emomali Rahmon, the president of Tajikistan, at JICA Headquarters in Tokyo on Oct. 4.
Mr. Kitaoka thanked Mr. Rahmon for the welcome he received when he visited Tajikistan in late June, including the invitation to a ceremony for National Unity and Reconciliation Day, which commemorates the signing of a peace agreement after the end of Tajikistan's civil war. Mr. Kitaoka said this visit to Japan by Mr. Rahmon would strengthen the relationship between the two countries. Mr. Kitaoka also commented that he hoped the younger generation would further develop the bilateral relationship. Mr. Kitaoka and Mr. Rahmon then discussed a wide range of matters including development issues, promoting investment, and stabilizing the border region with Afghanistan.
