Maintenance Manual of Japanese Garden handed over to Iranian counterparts by the first JICA Senior Volunteer in Islamic Republic of Iran

Iran Government and JICA agreed to start a new scheme of cooperation, known as volunteer program in Iran in 2019, which is a year of 90th Anniversary of diplomatic relation between two countries. As the first cooperation, the field of Japanese Garden and Rasht City was selected as a pilot project. Rasht City has a very close climate to Japan, which is why it is a very proper place for Japanese Garden.

In June 2019, JICA dispatched the first senior volunteer Mr. Kiyoshi KOMATSU, with a brilliant experience in the field of Japanese Garden in the Ministry of Construction of Japan, as well as senior volunteer of JICA in Turkey, Ecuador and Uzbekistan. He started his mission as an advisor for designing and constructing a Japanese Garden in Rasht City, in cooperation with Rasht Municipality.

In December 2019, his mission to Iran finished. During his 6 months stay in Iran, Mr. KOMATSU finished the design of Japanese Garden for Mafakher Park of Rasht City. He also finished a comprehensive manual on "Japanese Garden Landscaping Maintenance Manual", which has been submitted to Rasht Municipality and other related organization.

JICA expects Rasht Municipality to start the construction of Japanese Garden soon and to make the best use of this manual for proper maintenance of Japanese Garden. JICA also hopes that Japanese Garden would be deepening the understanding of Japanese culture and strengthening good relationship between Iran and Japan.
