JICA mission team reviewed, The latest situation of waste management in three Iranian megacities

Waste management issues, proper technologies and required trainings were discussed with Iranian authorities during a one-week mission from December 14-18, 2019 in Shiraz, Tehran and Mashhad.

Municipalities and Rural Management Organization (MRMO), an affiliated body of Ministry of Interior of Iran, arranged local and national seminars on general issues of waste management while concentrating on technical aspects of waste to energy systems such as incinerators.

The team transferred their knowledge to the managers and staff of Waste Management Organizations of the above-mentioned cities and shared their experience with mayor of Shiraz, Rasht, and Nowshar, and deputies for urban services of Tehran and Mashhad municipalities.

In addition, the team had a meeting on the critical problems of waste stream in the northern provinces of Gilan, Mazandaran and Golestan. The team had discussion with national and local policymakers from General Governor Office, Plan and Budget Organization of three provinces, MRMO as well as national Plan and Budget Organization.
