Egypt

Egypt is a great nation, which locates in geopolitically important position, linking the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Given this, strengthening Egypt's stability and development as well as its constructive role in the region is important for the regional peace and stability.

The cooperation between Egypt and Japan started when Japan provided technical cooperation in 1954, followed by grant aid in 1973, and loan in 1974. In 1977, JICA Egypt Office was established and since then, JICA continued to provide cooperation in Egypt in different sectors. Cairo Opera House, Peace Bridge, Cairo University Specialized Pediatric Hospital (CUSPH), Greater Cairo Metro Line No. 4. and Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) represent the major symbolic cooperation projects.

Following the visit of Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe to Egypt in January 2015 and Egyptian President, H.E. Abdel Fattah El Sisi's visit to Tokyo in 2016, both leaders declared "Japan-Egypt Joint Statement", which is considered to be the first step of the leap towards a new stage in bilateral relations between the two countries as both leaders reiterated their willingness to continue to work towards promoting regional and international stability and development, and to further develop their strategic relationship, in particular in the fields of education, electricity and health through exchanging of agreements such as Egypt Japan Education Partnership (EJEP).

Through the mutual cooperation between Egypt and Japan, JICA will continue to support the sustainable development of Egypt and will help strengthening this bilateral relationship.
