Low-carbon Technology Assessment

Vietnam submitted its Intended Nationally-Determined Contributions (INDC) to the UNFCCC secretariat in September 2015 and it gained status of Nationally-Determined Contributions (NDC) as an official pledge after entering into force of the Paris Agreement in October 2016. The current NDC includes 45 mitigation options in 4 sectors (Energy, Agriculture, LULUCF, Waste), targeting 8% reduction by domestic efforts and up to 25% reduction with international support compared to BAU in 2030, respectively.

As a next step, needs for detailed research on materializing these options as well as raising level of ambition through investigation of additional options have been recognized. The project will contribute to putting NDC into practice through support on the process of identifying low-carbon technologies applicable in Vietnam, prioritizing them and planning transfer of feasible technologies.

Under this activity, energy sector in the NDC is broken down to power generation, energy efficiency and transportation for detailed analysis. And F-gas sector is established in addition to existing sectors.
