Grant aid-signing ceremony of the Project for the Improvement of National Road in Refugee - Hosting Areas of West Nile Sub Region

On 11th February 2021, the JICA Uganda Senior Representative; Mr. Uchiyama Takayuki signed a Grant Agreement with the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; Hon. Minister Matia Kasaija worth JPY3.821 billion (approx. USD 36.8million or UGX 109.2 billion), for the Project for the Improvement of National Road in Refugee - Hosting Areas of West Nile Sub Region. This followed an earlier Signing of the Exchange of Notes for the same between the Ambassador of Japan to Uganda; H.E Fukuzawa Hidemoto with Hon. Kasaija.

With this grant financing, the project will develop the socio-economic infrastructure and realize smooth transport by upgrading 23km of the Yumbe-Manibe road, feeder roads and a bridge in the refugee-hosting areas of West Nile sub-region.

To build skills and create employment for the refugees as well as people in the host community, the project will utilize the Labour Based Technology concept in improving the feeder roads.
