[Long Term Trainee's Interview] Remote Learning Experience

Photo

My name is Gaone Lekhane and I am pursuing my Masters Degree in Computing at the Kobe Institute of Computing. Learning from home has its good and bad as described below. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, I was forced to begin remote learning for my Masters while I was still in Botswana and it was a whole new experience which had positive and negative outcomes. Considering that most of the learning was done in my personal place, the space was already familiar; I could be as comfortable as possible without needing to acclimatize to any new learning environment. The university also arranged a weekly session where students can meet online to discuss any issues or get to know each other. Additionally, since lessons were conducted online via social networks, we had the opportunity to re-visit the lectures that were recorded, something that was really good for me.

Despite learning in the comfort on my own personal space, there were many distractions such as people visiting during class times. It is very difficult to concentrate during classes if you are in a small house surrounded by family members. I had to move to another house, which was not yet ready for occupation to be able have a quiet workspace. Over and above that, you have to make sure that you make time to stretch during classes or during the 10 minutes break to be able to maintain concentration.
