Solve IT 2019 in Bahir Dar
- Solving Social Problems through Business by Utilizing Technology -

JICA, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy and iCog Labs, is carrying out the largest start-up innovation competition in Ethiopia called "Solve IT 2019". Regional competitions have been taking place since May and will continue throughout June.

Here are the top 3 winners from Bahir Dar

The first place winners invented a low-cost 3D printer, led by Melkamu Tadesse. They designed and manufactured a Cartesian type FDM 3D printer for making 3D solid objects at a lower cost.

The second place winner is an eco-friendly fuel and oil production created by Dawit Getachew. This project developed a machine that converts waste plastic to fuel, hydrogen fuel and electricity. The unique point is that it reduces the cost of fuel by 50% and can produce 50+ fuel types including fuel gas and hydrogen gas from water.

The third place winner is Smart Click Button, by Nathaniel Tamir and his highly motivated team, who developed a small gadget about 2-4 mm thickness above the phone's earphone jack. It functions as an easy shortcut for android phone users and the setup is easy to use.

JICA, US Embassy and iCog Labs would like to deliver a special thanks to Bahir Dar University for hosting all the training sessions and the regional competition.
