Mozambique, Angola, Rwanda and Ethiopia. All are among the world’s poorest countries. And in recent decades all suffered through years of destructive wars during which millions of people were killed and uprooted from their homes and their economies destroyed.
But among Africa’s greatest gifts is its resilience. In its own ways, sometimes with outside donor help including ongoing JICA projects, each country has been slowly and painfully rebuilding.
The following photographs highlight parts of that rebuilding process, but just as importantly, also illustrate both the vibrancy and beauty of Africa.
