2024年7月3日（水）から8月6日（火）までの約1カ月間、広島市水道局による「課題別研修　都市上水道維持管理（給・配水）（B）」に参加したゲイブさんから、帰国後のレポートが届きました。

「文化交流」　広島市水道局の講師の皆さんからは、日本文化について学ぶことができました。1ヵ月間共に研修を過ごした他の参加者（ガンビア、ウクライナ、ネパール、ラオス、エチオピアの5か国・5名）とは、それぞれの国の食べ物・言語・家族・政治などについて話し合い、交流を深めることができました。

Cultural Interaction – I was able to learn about Japanese culture and interact with people from different nations and ethnicity. My fellow trainees were from Gambia, Ukraine, Nepal, Laos and Ethiopia and we had many opportunities to share about food, language, family life and even politics.

「技術的な学び」　それぞれの国が抱える水に関する課題について、他の参加者と共有し、解決策を話し合うことができた。途上国といっても、各国の状況には異なる点もあれば、似ている点もあることに気づいた。何十年もかけて積み重ねてきた水供給システムについての知見や、水道事業における経験を、惜しみなく広島市水道局からは共有していただいた。

Technical Knowledge – My fellow participants and I were able to share of our challenges in our own water sectors and ventilate possible solutions. Coming from developing states, we realized that we had similar issues though we were a diverse cohort. The Hiroshima Water Bureau spared no effort to give insight into the development of their water supply system and the lessons they have learnt over decades of planning and execution of water works.

「人とのつながり」　参加者同士で今後も意見交流ができるように、連絡先・SNSなどの交換を行った。研修で出会った水道器具のメーカーとも連絡先を交換することができた。

「世界平和」　帰国日前日に“平和記念式典”に参加することができた。79年前に一度壊滅的な被害を受けた広島が、素晴らしい復興をとげたことに感銘を受け、これからも平和のシンボルとして輝き続けてほしいと感じた。

World Peace – We attended the City of Hiroshima’s Annual Peace Memorial Ceremony to commemorate the atomic bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima some 75 years ago. The once destroyed city is now a technologically advanced symbol of peace and champion for nuclear disarmament.

・帰国後について教えてください。
　研修の最後の発表会では、「圧力管理の改善による無収水（NRW）削減」を最終目標に設定し、10年間でどのように目標を達成するかを示したアクションプランを作成した。このアクションプランを所属先への説明を行い、同僚・上司からの理解・関心を深めている段階です。
