African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are jointly taking the 30th anniversary of the TICAD as an opportunity to validate the significance and results of the TICAD process in African development and the development impacts of the major initiatives of AUDA-NEPAD and JICA, and to identify major challenges and directions for future African development in preparation for TICAD9 scheduled to be held in 2025 at Yokohama, Japan.
The TICAD 30-year review survey is an AUDA-NEPAD and JICA joint initiative in collaboration with the AUC. As the first phase of the survey comes to a close in March, AUDA-NEPAD and JICA are organising a side event as a margin of AU Summit 2024 to disseminate tentative outcomes of the first phase to African leaders, TICAD partners and a broad audience to receive comments and suggestions in preparation for the second phase, which aims to broaden the scope for a holistic assessment.
Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) is an international conference on the theme of development in Africa. The first conference (TICAD I) was held in 1993 under the leadership of the Japanese government. Since then, TICAD has been organised in collaboration with the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission (AUC), and the World Bank. The conference has occurred eight times since its first gathering in 1993.
