The Japanese Overseas Migration Museum (JOMM) is deeply saddened by the passing of the Honorable Norman Y. Mineta who was the first Asian American ever to serve as a U.S. Cabinet secretary. We would like to extend my sincerest condolences to his beloved family and innumerable friends.

The JOMM features a video of Mr. Mineta, in which he talked about the hardships he endured during childhood by reason of his race, as well as the importance of overcoming the prejudices. His understated yet frank message in the video conveys a precious lesson that is sure to touch the hearts of our museum visitors, no matter their ancestral background.
