Dear JICA, Happy 40th anniversary, and I wish you to have many more! I would like to express my gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the JICA course dedicated to the prevention of hospital-acquired infections. The course was divided into two parts due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and module A was online, while module B was onsite, two weeks at JICA Centre in Naha, Okinawa in November 2023. This experience has been nothing short of transformative, not only in terms of professional growth but also in fostering international collaboration and friendship.
親愛なるJICA沖縄の皆様、40 周年おめでとうございます！JICAの院内感染予防コースに参加させていただき、ありがとうございました。このコースはコロナ感染症の世界的流行のため2つのパートに分かれ、まず遠隔研修で、次に来日研修で、2023年11月にJICA沖縄センターで2週間行われました。この経験は、専門家としての成長だけでなく、国際的な協力と友好を育むという意味でも、大きな変革にほかなりませんでした。

Through this program, I was privileged to witness firsthand how Japan addresses the complex challenges of hospital-acquired infections and to learn about Japanese Kaizen (改善), its meaning and the philosophy of implementing continuous improvement, ,among other things. Observing the meticulous approach of Japanese hospitals in Naha ( the ones that we have visited) to surveillance, prevention, and management has enriched my understanding and broadened my perspective on infection control. The knowledge I have gained has helped me enhance our practices at the University Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Skopje, part of the State Clinical Center and part of the Faculty of Medicine, and contribute to better patient care.
研修を通じ、私は日本が院内感染という複雑な課題にどのように取り組んでいるのかを目の当たりにし、日本の「改善」について、その意味や継続的に改善を実施する哲学などを学ぶ機会に恵まれました。訪問した病院のサーベイランス、予防、管理に対する綿密なアプローチを観察することで、感染管理に対する理解が深まり、視野が広がりました。私が得た知識は、スコピエ（北マケドニア最大の都市）の感染症大学病院（国立臨床センターと医学部の一部）での診療を強化し、より良い患者ケアに貢献するのに役立っています。

Beyond the wealth of information, this experience allowed me to build meaningful professional relationships as well. One such valuable acquaintance is with Professor Itaru Hirai, M.D. Ph.D., from the Laboratory of Microbiology at the School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of the Ryukyus in Naha, Okinawa. Our collaboration has led to the acceptance of a research program about the prevalence of multidrug-resistant bacteria in wastewater from the University Clinic for infectious diseases in North Macedonia, Skopje. This project marks the start of collaboration between the School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of the Ryukyus in Naha, Okinawa and University Clinic for Infectious Diseases and febrile Conditions, Faculty of Medicine, University Ss Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, North Macedonia. I can only wish that many more projects like this will be accepted, and I wish many more professionals to have the opportunity to participate in one of JICA programs. 豊富な情報だけでなく、この経験によって、有意義な仕事上の人間関係も築くことができました。沖縄にある琉球大学医学部保健学科微生物学研究室の平井至教授と貴重な知己を得ました。私たちの共同研究は、スコピエにある大学感染症クリニックからの排水に含まれる多剤耐性菌の有病率に関する研究プログラムの受け入れとなりました。このプロジェクトは、琉球大学医学部保健学科と、北マケドニア・スコピエ市にあるシリル・メトディウス大学医学部感染症・発熱クリニックとの共同研究の始まりです。このようなプロジェクトがもっとたくさん採択されること、そしてJICAのプログラムに参加する機会がより多くの専門家に与えられることを願います。将来、再びこのようなプログラムに参加できることを願っています。
