東日本大震災に被災した高齢者の災害に対する強じん性・復元性（レジリエンス）の促進に向け、社会的結びつきの役割を調査した岩沼プロジェクト（R01AG042463-04）の研究責任者を務める。準実験計画法というユニークな手法を活用し、震災以前の被災者に関するデータも用いながら、老齢人口の災害に関連した健康アウトカム（心的外傷後ストレス障害、認知低下、機能的障害）のリスクと防御因子の記録を目指している。
