【研修コース】帰国研修員からのメッセージー日本での留学生活を終えてー

かつてJICA北海道（帯広）での研修に参加し、新型コロナウイルス感染拡大という困難の中で自国で奮闘する帰国研修員たちから届いたメッセージをご紹介します。今回は、マダガスカルのフィフィさんからのメッセージです。

日本での留学生活を終えて

2019年9月、「日本とアフリカの人脈形成と協力関係強化」を主な目的とするJICAのABEイニシアティブプログラムにより、帯広畜産大学に留学するため、私の北海道での生活が始まりました。
私は母国マダガスカルのアンタナナリボ大学で農学を学んだ後、2015年からの5年間、民間企業で農業研究開発マネージャーとして勤めていた経験から、マダガスカルにおけるアグリビジネスや農業産業、農村地域開発の促進のため、農業経済学を学び深めたいと思うようになりました。そこで、農業に特化し、質の高い教育・研究環境が整っている帯広畜産大学に留学を決めました。以前にマダガスカルからの留学生が帯広畜産大学にいたことも決め手の一つでした。
在学中は『マダガスカルにおけるアグリビジネス参入影響の要因』という研究テーマで、お2人の指導教官にお世話になりました。1人目の教官には、私が研究生としてや時系列データ、マクロ経済学に基づくベイズ統計学について研究しているときに監督していただき、修士課程に進学してからは、2人目の指導教官より計量経済学と農業開発政策（主にミクロ経済学と横断的パネルデータ分析）について教えていただきました。お2人の監督指導のおかげで2つの科学論文を提出することが出来た他、帯広畜産大学の質の高い教育環境での修士課程研究は、知識と能力の向上の大きな助けとなりました。JICAそして帯広畜産大学に対し、日本でこのような学びの機会をいただけたことを感謝しております。
　また、家族と遠く離れての生活は、私の自立心を高めてもくれました。外国に住むことは、これまでとは違う気候や言語、土地への適応方法を学ぶことになり、視野が確実に広がりました。時には母国マダガスカルや食事が恋しくなることもありましたが、それは一時的なものであったので、寿司やラーメンといった日本食を堪能できました。温泉や美術館、図書館に行ったり、路線バスに乗ったりと、北海道・帯広の生活はとても楽しく、一見すると厳しい冬季でも、家の中は暖房が効いていますし、防寒着も準備していましたので、大きな不自由もなく日々を過ごせました。十勝は自然も豊かで素晴らしい地域です。ここで多くの友人ができ、更には自分自身の家族を築くこともできたこの場所を、私は生涯忘れることはないでしょう。
　改めてJICAと帯広畜産大学、そして帯広のみなさんへ感謝申し上げます。いつかアフリカ、マダガスカルの美しい自然や、マダガスカルの人々にも会いに来てください。Arigato gozaimasu, yoroshiku onegaishimasu.

Thank you for studying abroad life in Japan

I arrived in Hokkaido in September 2019 to study at Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (OUAVM) through the ABE initiative (African Business Education Initiative for Youth) program of JICA. The main objective of the program is to develop the relationship between Africa and Japan and being a trustful partner for this cooperation. In my country, I obtained a Master in Agriculture Engineering at the University of Antananarivo in 2014 and also worked as an Agriculture RD manager for a private company for 5 years (2015-2019). Through my experience, I wanted to study agricultural economics in order to promote agribusiness, industry and rural development in Madagascar. I choose to study at Obihiro University of agriculture and Veterinary Medicine because it is specialized in Agriculture, have a good quality of academic education and research. Also, this university has already received other Madagascar students previously.
I worked together with two supervisors. My first supervisor accompanied me during my research student period when I could study the Bayesian statistics related to time-series data and macroeconomy. During my master study, my second supervisor taught me econometrics and agriculture development policy; especially microeconomy, cross-sectional and panel data analysis. Their supervision and guidance permitted the publication of two scientific articles. My thesis was about the study of the factors impacting participation in agribusiness in Madagascar. I am grateful to have received the opportunity that JICA and Obihiro University gave me to study in Japan. The master course and the research help me to improve my knowledge and competences with the high quality of education at the university.
Furthermore, living far from my family strengthen my independence. I learned how to adapt in a new environment with different climate, language, places… Living abroad really changes positively my life and my point of view. Sometimes, I missed my country and the food but it is just temporary. Therefore, I appreciate Japanese food like sushi and ramen. I enjoy going to onsen, the museum of art, the library, taking the bus… I really liked living in Obihiro and Hokkaido. I had no big difficulty in my daily life, even during the winter because I was prepared with warm clothes and the houses are heated. Tokachi is a very nice place and have a beautiful nature. This place will remain in my memories since even in my personal life, I made many new friends and even built my own family there.
I would like to thank JICA, Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Obihiro people. Please come to visit Madagascar-Africa one day to see the beautiful nature and meet Madagascar people. Arigato gozaimasu, yoroshiku onegaishimasu.
